Another morning reflection

I am sitting here writing this with the fire lit, but the door open, connecting with all the elements – earth, fire, water, air.

There’s a light drizzle, but there’s sunshine.

There’s the roar of the wind through the trees, alongside the most delicate birdsong.

Last night there were the twinkling stars against the black of the night.

I love how both can exist alongside each other.

There can be tough stuff going on in our lives, and the right person reaches out at the right time. The right song, or maybe a totally inappropriate song, comes on the radio and has you laughing or reflecting on beautiful memories in the middle of what could look like chaos, ache, grief.

The more I’ve been opening up to joy and spending time with joy, the more I’ve been able to see that it really does exist everywhere around us.

Not instead of the hard stuff, but alongside it.

I think sometimes we can feel guilty for feeling joyful, or happy, or content, or peaceful when there is so much else going on in our lives or in the world.

But by not being open to joy, by not noticing joy, by not reclaiming joy, by not unlocking joy, by not sitting with joy, we end up closing off.

And the world doesn’t need more closure, more disconnect.

The world needs more love, more openness, more expansion, more beautiful ripples doing their magic.

Having the intention of noticing joy in the moment has certainly had me smiling throughout the week. Sometimes that’s an internal smile in my heart that is just for me. Sometimes it’s an external smile that others might see.

A smile that comes from another moment of joy it feels like a familiar reassurance. Ah yes there you are, there’s the joy in this moment.

If you’re feeling as though you don’t have the capacity for going out there and finding more joy, if the last thing you need is to add “be more joyful” to another to-do list, then maybe this idea about reclaiming our joy will land a little easier…

Maybe it starts with noticing the joy that is already present.

Clearing the pathway to the joy within. Finding the keys that unlock the door to joy.

Alongside,

Liz
