Fleeting connections

Anything more out of reach,

One thing in common

The love of the beach.

You get the look straight ahead

Sometimes the look down

Intense concentration

Sometimes a frown.

A little turn of the lip

Or a nod of the head

A quiver of happiness

Or just a grunt instead.

Then suddenly eyes connect

And without any warning

You’re met with a beautiful smile

And a gutsy good morning!

Manly Beach

When I was writing this poem, it reminded me of when I was struggling with depression.  Walking along the beach one day, desperate for someone to look up, smile, say hi, connect and acknowledge me in some way. Amazing what a little thing like that can do for someone. Who needs to see your smile today?
