Sat at Sage and Thyme, the words The Village Coffee Salon caught me eye. At the back of the menu there was a little piece saying why they decided to call it a salon as opposed to a coffee shop.
The piece in the menu went on to say it was a 17th Century tradition originating in Europe. Defined as a ‘social gathering of intellectual, social, political and cultural people under the roof of an inspiring hostess or host, partly to amuse one another and partly to refine their taste and increase their knowledge through conversation.” The way people lived, communicated and connected before social media.
We are more connected than ever, but no social media beats being face to face with a good friend, sharing the benefits of a hug on arrival, getting in to conversation where you lose track of time, sharing a laugh from the depths of your belly, shedding a tear knowing you have the full support of the person with you, making plans together or hearing about each other’s lives/adventures/families/ups and downs…
When was the last time you had all/some/any of the above? In our online world what do you need to do to reconnect with people offline, for you, for them, and for the wider ripples that that connection could have….

THE END
Ripples and reflection is a series of thoughts after a conversation or connection. Nothing like a good conversation to make you think or change or both….
